Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) will commence on Thursday a preventative 10-day maintenance at its No. 5 blast furnace. AHMSA said this week it decided to commence the maintenance at the equipment “ahead of time.”

The company said the maintenance aims to keep the blast furnace fully operational for H2 2019, adding that other areas of the facility will operate regularly; steel shipments will not be affected as a result of the 10-day repair, the company said.

The No. 5 blast furnace is AHMSA’s largest piece of equipment. AHMSA also has blast furnaces No. 4 and No. 6 and an EAF as part of its Fénix project.

AHMSA also announced the freeze on its banking accounts has been suspended. The company said the government decision, which was due to corruption charges, “severely impacted” the company’s financial operations.
