Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said Wednesday it has resumed activities at its cold rolling mill at its MestaHitachi plant, following a blast on September 5.

The company said it used other units for cold rolling production activities during the temporary shutdown, and a reconditioning program was required to resume operations. AHMSA said in addition to cleaning damaged parts, the equipment’s electronic and other auxiliary systems had to be replaced.

AHMSA adopted three shifts over the last 20 days in order to speed up the equipment’s recovery. The equipment, located at the No. 2 steelworks, is the company’s main cold rolled mill, supplying primarily the automotive and appliance sectors.
