Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) received a plate certification from Bureau Veritas (BV), the company announced.
According to the steelmaker, BV granted the steelmaker the BV-NR320 certification, which allows the Mexican producer to supply plates to marine vessels. The certification was granted following an inspection procedure by BV, which reviewed the process by which the plates are produced at the company’s Steckel mill.
AHMSA said the BV-NR320 certification establishes the requisites for the production of different grades of specialty steel aimed at the naval industry.
Late last year, AHMSA said it was performing tests to provide specialty steel to the Mexican Defense Ministry (SEDENA). AHMSA was expected to provide high armor steel to be used in the production of military vehicles.
Also in 2016, AHMSA said it teamed up with the Mexican Navy to provide 15,000 mt/year of steel. AHMSA has also inked another deal with the country’s Navy to provide 4,000 mt of steel plate of marine use to build three vessels.
