Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said this week it produced 4.52 million mt of crude steel in 2018, up from 4.39 million mt in 2017.

Despite the small increase in crude steel production from 2017, the company attributed the improved production rate to the Fenix steel initiative in Monclova, Coahuila, and to further investments it made in the project. The project aims to increase installed capacity and extend the company’s product offering of value-added steel products.

AHMSA said it sold 3.9 million mt of finished steel products in 2018, both domestically and internationally. Sales were mainly flat and structural steel products for the oil, civil construction, metal-mechanic, automotive and domestic appliances sector, among others.
