Russian steelmaking company Abinsk Electric Steel Works Ltd has started offering rebar for sale from its Balakovo mill. SteelOrbis understands that the Balakovo mill will mostly be selling rebar locally, though the possibility of exports in the future should not be ruled out.

Abinsk completed the acquisition the Balakovo mill from Severstal in late July. The Balakovo mill’s monthly rebar production capacity stands at 70,000 mt, for diameters of 8-40 mm and lengths of 6-24 meters, while it also produces billets which will allow the mill to be self-sufficient in terms of feedstock.

Abinsk itself has a monthly production capacity of 110,000 mt for rebar and wire rod. With the addition of Balakovo, the company shows potential for growth.
