The methane blast which occurred last week at the Karaganda region-based Abaiskaya mine, which is owned by Kazakhstan-based ArcelorMittal Temirtau, is said to have provoked the miners' strike which started on Wednesday morning at ArcelorMittal Temirtau's Tentek coal mine, also located in Karaganda region.

However, the strike was suspended shortly after the miners handed over the list of their demands, including the improvement of working conditions and increased wages, to Vladimir Bozhko, head of the government commission investigating the Abaiskaya explosion.
