Steno Marcegaglia, founder and president of the Italian steelmaking group Marcegaglia, has died today, September 10 in Milan at the age of 83 years, after being hospitalized after a fall. He was the father of Antonio and Emma, former president of Italian employers' federation Confindustria, both of whom are managing directors of the family business. Steno Marcegaglia founded the Marcegaglia steel group in 1959. It is still fully owned by the family, with headquarters in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti in the province of Mantua in northern Italy.

Born in 1930 in San Giovanni Ilarione in the province of Verona, Mr. Marcegaglia received the official honor of Cavaliere del Lavoro from the Italian state in July 1992. The 'lord of steel', as he was called in a biography published in 2009, used to say, "The formula for creating a leading company is great ambition, the ability to risk, tenacity, and the dedication of all collaborators."
