Luxembourg-based steelmaker
ArcelorMittal has announced that it has signed a $40 million deal with the government of
Liberia to build a 70 km road between the towns of Ganta and Yekepa, close to the company's
iron ore mine in Mount Tokadeh.
According to
ArcelorMittal's statement, the agreement signifies the official start of the construction process on the road. Construction is projected to start in November 2013 with completion of the black-top highway expected in 2015.
ArcelorMittal started commercial production from its
Liberia iron ore project in September 2011, by which time it had already invested $800 million in repairing road and infrastructure.
