On October 4, the largest South African iron ore producer Kumba Iron Ore Company, a subsidiary of Anglo American Plc, announced that it has suspended production at the company's Sishen mine where approximately 300 striking employees are blocking access to the pit. The mine employs approximately 12,700 workers, according to the company statement.

Production continued from material stockpiles until the night of October 3, said the company.

Kumba also said that it has sufficient production from its other mines and stockpiles of finished products to continue supplying its customers for some time.
