Will US domestic standard pipe prices continue to firm?

US domestic flat rolled steel mills have announced a flurry of price increases since late-October, which, in turn, have continued to help firm spot market prices for downstream products, including US domestic Grade A ERW BPW standard pipe.

At current, the most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic Grade A ERW BPE standard pipe has firmed by approximately $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) since our last report two weeks ago, which brings the new, current average spot market price range to $42-$44 ($926-$970/mt or $840-$880/nt), ex-Midwest mill.

Sources close to SteelOrbis say that market players think flats mills may try to push for a fifth price increase in December.  If US hot rolled coil prices continue to climb, they say, it would be expected that US domestic Grade A ERW BPE standard prices will continue to firm as well.
