Will the US standard pipe prices weather the soft price trend for HRC?

The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic Grade A ERW BPE standard pipe continues to hold at approximately at approximately $45.00 cwt.  ($992/mt or $900/nt), ex-Midwest mill, for small-sized buyers, but sources close to SteelOrbis are indicating that big-to-large sized buyers are “not having any problems getting deals below that range, based on what it is they’re wanting to book with the mill.”

Some attribute the somewhat-soft standard pipe price trend to steady, but less-than-exciting market activity; others believe the current softness that’s being seen in US domestic hot rolled coil prices is a contributing factor.

“Everyone is just riding this out and waiting to see what, if any shake-ups the market will have in store in the upcoming weeks,” one source said.
