Last week, Maruichi Leavitt Pipe and Tube, Bull Moose Tube, Independence Tube Corporation and Atlas Tube announced they would be raising prices on all new HSS orders by $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt), effective immediately.  The price increase is attributed to continued increases in hot rolled coil prices.

Prior to the announcement, US HSS spot market prices were trending at $46-$48 cwt. ($1014-$1058/mt or $920-$960/nt), ex-mill.

This week, sources close to SteelOrbis have confirmed that US HSS mills are holding firm to the new price point. As such, current US HSS spot market prices are trending at $49-$51 cwt. ($1080-$1124/mt or $980-$1020/nt), ex-mill, reflecting the full mill increase.

“Tube mills are holding firm. There is some discounting on large requirements but it is at a minimum,” one source said. “The mills are empowered with the recent consolidations and are increasing their spread. I have my doubts about how long they will be able to keep prices up unless flat rolled keeps going up.”
