Two weeks ago, the most commonly reported ex-Midwest mill US domestic spot price for hollow structural sections (HSS) had ticked down by about $0.50 cwt.;  today, prices have ticked down yet another $0.50 cwt., bringing the new range to approximately $46.00-$47.00 cwt. ($1,014-$1,036/mt or $920-$940/nt).   “Demand isn’t bad,” according to one Midwest service center source, “but there’s a lot of material that’s on the ground that was booked last year, scrap and HRC prices are softening and HSS mills are having a hard time keeping their line in the sand.”

In terms of offshore prices, the previously reported “sideways quiet” trend has continued.  Offer prices from Korea are unchanged in the past two weeks, still in the approximate range of $37.50-$38.50 cwt.  ($827-$849/mt or $750-$770/nt) DDP loaded truck US Gulf coast ports, while offers from Turkish mills are trending about $2.50 cwt. ($55/mt or $50/nt) higher.
