US domestic standard pipe prices stable, but negotiable

The most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic Grade A ERW BPE continues to hold at $49-$50 cwt. ($1080-$1102/mt or $980-$1000/nt), ex-mill, although sources close to SteelOrbis say mills have shown an increased willingness to negotiate due to price softness within the US domestic hot rolled coil market.

“Demand is steady but hot rolled coil prices are down,” a source said, adding that while current spot market pricing for standard pipe is steady, quiet deals up to $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) below the current range are available for volume buyers.

“Unless hot rolled prices start to shore up, I’m not sure how long the pipe mills will be able to keep standard pipe prices at their current level,” another source said.
