The German seamless pipe market has seen only modest booking activity at the beginning of the year. German producers have left their seamless pipe prices in euro terms unchanged over the past month, citing a poor and unresponsive market emerging from the New Year holiday, with still no increase in activity levels. However, in dollar terms prices of German seamless pipes have declined by $48-50/mt due to currency fluctuations. Import prices of Ukrainian material have increased by €25-30/mt (down $6-14/mt) over the past month, while offers of Chinese pipes have moved up by €20-30/mt (max. down $4/mt), mainly due to the weaker euro against the US dollar. Over the same period, offers of Romanian and Italian pipes have remained unchanged in euro terms, but have declined by $51-57/mt in dollar terms. Meanwhile, market insiders maintain their optimism towards the future market, holding the view that prices may move up due to rising raw material quotations, an expected gradual recovery in end-user demand and higher import offers in euro terms.
German 2"-6" seamless pipes of grade S355 made to EN 10210 are being offered to local buyers at around €900-920/mt ($1,062-1,086/mt) delivered.
