The local Chinese steel pipe market has mainly been characterized by a slight downtrend during the past week, with some prices also moving sideways.
As of April 6, in China's three main steel markets, i.e., Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, the average price of 20# (GB/T8162-1999) grade 108 mm x 4.5 mm seamless pipe now stands at $655/mt (RMB 4,516/mt), with 20# (GB/T8163-1999) grade 219 mm x 6 mm seamless pipe at $660/mt (RMB 4,550/mt). Meanwhile, on the same date, Q195-215 grade 48 mm x 3.25 mm welded pipe and Q215-235 grade 114 mm x 3.75 mm welded pipe prices in the above markets are standing at $537/mt (RMB 3,700/mt) and $536/mt (RMB 3,696/mt) respectively. All the above prices include 17 percent VAT.
The local Chinese seamless pipe market has mostly moved sideways in the past seven days, with some prices also softening slightly. Overall trading activity has remained weak, also due to the influence of Tomb Sweeping Festival early in the week. Sentiment among traders is poor. As for the coming week, it is believed that traders may reduce their prices in order to attract more business.
The Chinese domestic welded pipe market has moved down slightly during the past week. Overall trading activity has been at low levels, while market inventories are on the high side and traders are ready to offer discounts in order to conclude deals. It is thought that the local welded pipe market price may indicate further downticks in the week ahead.
