Demand still slack in Turkish welded pipe market

Demand in the local Turkish welded pipe market has remained slack this week due to Ramadan and the approaching end-of-Ramadan holiday, with buyers postponing their welded pipe purchases until after the holiday. Although Turkish producers’ offers for hot rolled coil (HRC) - which is used as feedstock in steel pipe production - have moved sideways during the past week, Turkish pipe producers have decreased their welded pipe offers for the domestic market by $10/mt on the upper end this week, due to slack demand and the slowdown in trading activity.

Accordingly, Turkish ERW pipes and hollow sections with 2-4 mm wall thickness made from hot rolled coil (HRC) of S235 grade as per EN 10219 to the domestic market are still in the range of $500-520/mt ex-works, down $10/mt from the upper end.

Meanwhile, Turkish producers’ welded pipe export offers have decreased by $15/mt on average week on week to $500-510/mt FOB on theoretical weight basis, while demand for Turkish welded pipes is also weak in the export markets.
