US domestic pig iron trends up further

On March 30, SteelOrbis reported basic steelmaking pig iron prices at $413-419/mt ($375-380/nt) FOB Chicago warehouse and nodular and foundry pig iron grades at $468-485($425-440/nt) FOB Chicago warehouse.  The source noted that these were the active prices for second-quarter contracts.

Pig iron prices have continued rising in the US domestic market and prices are presently heard at $441-452/mt ($400-410/nt) FOB Chicago warehouse for basic steelmaking pig iron and $501-507/mt ($455-460/nt) FOB Chicago warehouse for nodular and foundry grades. These prices reflect an increase on basic pig iron of $28/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $33/mt from the top of the previous range. The range for nodular and foundry grades has increased by $33/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $22/mt from the top of the previous range.

A regional source stated, “Pig iron keeps rising and we are getting tight on supply.”
