On August 9, SteelOrbis reported ferrochrome (6-8 percent carbon, 60-65 percent chromium, and less than 2 percent silicon) at $3,064-3,196/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh, after trending sideways since July.
According to sources, with global increases in China and the EU, despite low volumes trading, US domestic ferrochrome is now trading at $3,085-3,217/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. While the price increase was a nominal $21/mt, it reflects tight supply and continued demand in the market, and increases the possibility of a “more robust increase” into fourth quarter negotiations.
