Although the import scrap market in Turkey is currently very quiet, it is heard that many short sea scrap suppliers are seeking to conclude sales to Turkey. However, Turkish steel producers are unwilling to conclude new import scrap purchases amid various factors including the declines recorded in global iron ore prices, the reductions seen in Chinese finished steel and semi-finished steel export quotations, and also given the proximity of the referendum to be held on April 16. It is observed that Turkish steel mills are even abstaining from giving firm bids. A Turkish steelmaker has reported its price idea for ex-Bosnia HMS I/II 80:20 scrap to be at $240/mt CFR Iskenderun, while others have not even shared their price ideas.
