Reduced prices boost Brazilian niobium ferroalloys exports

Exports of niobium ferroalloys by the Brazilian producers CBMM and Catalao, the local arm of Anglo American, reached 7,800 mt in October, 24 percent more than in September, at an average FOB price 3.2 percent lower at $23,708/mt.

Exports by CBMM went up by 26 percent to 7,196mt at $23,640/mt, while exports from Catalao were slightly decreased to 590 mt at $24,634/mt.

The main destinations were the EU (up 15 percent to 2,000 mt), China (up 16 percent to 1,700 mt), Singapore (up 5 percent to 1,400 mt) and Japan (up 92 percent to 1,100 mt), while smaller tonnages were shipped to Mexico (400 mt) and Canada (100 mt).

A source from a local slab producer told SteelOrbis that its last acquisition of ferroniobium was closed at the equivalent to $30,600/mt, CFR, no taxes included, a 32 percent increase from the last acquisition one month ago.
