Prices stable in local Italian scrap market

The situation in the local Italian scrap market is unchanged since the period before the summer holidays and prices are the same as they were at the end of July-start of August.

Scrap availability is decent and demand is at medium levels. Market sources have said that, if there is any change in prices in the short term, it will be in a downward direction. However, there are at least two factors which could prevent any drop in prices: on the one hand, domestic steel producers are said to be ready to make an increase in their finished product prices, while at the same time supply and demand are in equilibrium.

In the meantime, French and German scrap prices are €5/mt ($6/mt) higher than Italian prices.

Average spot prices in the local Italian scrap market are as follows:

Quality Average spot price (€/mt)
Turnings (E5) 170-175 ($193-198/mt)
HMS (E1/E3) 190-195 ($215-221/mt)
Shredded scrap (E40) 200-210 ($226-238/mt)
Busheling (E8) 195-205 ($221-232/mt)

Prices include delivery and exclude VAT.
