During the week ending October 14, prices in the main local steel scrap markets in China have remained on a stable trend, while overall transaction activity in the domestic market has been at decent levels as steelmakers have resumed their purchasing activities after the recent National Day Holiday (Oct. 1-7). Average scrap prices in the local Chinese market can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.
After the National Day Holiday, domestic steelmakers have resumed their purchasing activities for scrap, while the equilibrium between supply and demand has contributed to the stability of prices in the scrap market. During the given week, the rising trend of semi-finished steel prices and the rebounds seen in both iron ore spot market prices and iron ore futures prices have provided a certain degree of support for local scrap prices. For the coming period, it is thought that steelmakers may increase their purchase prices for scrap in order to attract more supplies. It is expected that scrap prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely indicate a slight rising trend in the week ahead.
