Pig iron import offers from CIS countries to Turkey have been trending sideways for a long time now. Ukrainian pig iron export offers are ranging at $390-400/mt FOB, while offers for Turkey are heard at $410-420/mt CFR.
The fluctuation of iron ore prices in a narrow range of $130-140/mt in the past month is one of the reasons while pig iron prices have not indicated significant changes. Apart from the fact that mills have been taking iron ore and coking coal prices into account when they count the costs of pig iron, scrap transaction prices are also a significant factor for Turkish buyers. The scrap and pig iron price trends in the past three months have been similar. Meanwhile, it is thought that pig iron prices will likely follow a stable trend in the fourth quarter.
