Brazil exported 179,600 mt of pig iron in May, 9.2 percent more than in April, at an average FOB price stable at $212/mt, according to the local ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC.
The steelmaking grade price was stable at $195/mt, while the price of the foundry grade product was traded in a range of $219/mt to $266/mt, all FOB conditions at price deals probably closed in March.
An industry source told SteelOrbis that prices for both grades have not significantly changed from exports in May.
The main destinations of May were Asia (69,800 mt), the US (44,200 mt), Latin America (40,800 mt) and the EU (22,700 mt), while 1,500 mt were shipped to Turkey.
