Brazil exported 227,900 mt of pig iron in August, 7.3 percent less than in July, almost entirely of the steelmaking grade product at an average price of $272/mt, FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in June.
Exports by the producers in the north of the country declined by 40 percent to 75,700 mt, while the producers in the southeast exported 140,000 mt, a 25 percent increase, and the producers in the central-western region exported 61 percent less, 12,000 mt.
The US was the main destination (118,200 mt), followed by South America (66,000 mt), the EU (39,600 mt) and Asia (3,600 mt).
The most recent deals for Brazilian exports of pig iron were reportedly closed at $238/mt for the steelmaking grade product and $280/mt for the foundry grade product.
