SteelOrbis has been informed that ex-China SAE 1008 boron-added 5.5 mm wire rod is being offered for export at the level of $640-660/mt FOB on actual weight basis for October shipment. The nine percent export tax rebate has been taken into account in the price.

Recently, China's export market for wire rod has been characterized by overall weakness. Given the increase in domestic prices, export quotations have climbed up considerably, with mainstream offers from Chinese mills standing at $640-660/mt FOB. It is heard that export activities for high carbon wire rod are indicating a relatively positive situation, while common low carbon wire rod exports to Southeast Asia have declined due to lack of competitiveness.
