SteelOrbis has been informed by market sources that price levels in the Turkish domestic market for 6-7 mm mesh quality wire rod are as follows:

Region

Price ($/mt)

Marmara

521 - 528

Thrace

514 - 521

Izmir

514 - 525

Iskenderun

485 - 500

The above prices, which are on actual weight basis, do not include VAT and are on ex-works basis. The offers may differ depending on buyers and order sizes.

According to market sources, wire rod prices in the local Turkish market are in the range of $485-528/mt ex-works, excluding VAT, indicating a decrease of $20-25/mt week on week. Demand in the local Turkish wire rod market is stronger than in the export markets, while sources state that transaction activity in the local market has failed to improve as they had expected. The downward trends in the raw material and semi-finished steel markets have contributed to the declines recorded in the local Turkish wire rod market. Hence, buyers in the market are also expected to put downward pressure on suppliers.

On the other hand, Chinese wire rod offers to Turkey are currently in the range of $430-440/mt CFR. Turkish processors that use wire rod as feedstock state that chrome is an undesired alloy in wire rods as it causes problems in the production process. Accordingly, Turkish buyers are unwilling to conclude deals for Chinese chrome-added wire rod.
