Although US domestic scrap prices are expected to drop this month, sources tell SteelOrbis the recently-announced $2.00 cwt. ($40/nt or $44/mt) US domestic merchant bar price increase should have “no problem” absorbing into the market when it goes into effect on April 7. As such, ex-mill list prices will rise to the following levels:
Shape/Size | cwt. | net tons | metric tons |
Flat bar 2 x 1/4”: | $36.15 | $723 | $797 |
Angle 2 x 2 x 1/4”: | $34.80 | $696 | $767 |
Square bar 1”: | $34.75 | $695 | $766 |
Round bar 1”: | $36.20 | $724 | $798 |
Channels standard C 3 x 4.1 | $35.75 | $715 | $788 |
However, sources report that there is still rebates and discounting available at the ex-mill level, with larger distributors reportedly selling merchant bar to smaller distributors for less than $1.00 cwt. ($20/nt or $22/mt) above ex-mill pricing.
