During the past week, demand for special steel in the local Turkish market has remained slack. Since locally produced wire rod is used as raw material in cold drawing special steel production, cold drawing special steel prices have remained stable in the same period due to the sideways movement of wire rod quotations.
In the same period, although the US dollar has strengthened significantly against the Turkish lira, quotations for locally produced billet in the Turkish market are expected to soften in the coming period due to the declines in global billet prices. As a result, hot drawing heat treatable steel and spring steel sellers have slightly reduced their domestic prices. However, hot drawing carbon steel inventories in the local Turkish spot market have been at relatively low levels compared to other special steels, and so quotations for these products have remained stable week on week.
