During the week ending November 22, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have moved on a downward trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, the downward trend of ferrous metal futures prices in China has exerted a negative impact on finished steel prices in the spot market, also negatively affecting domestic semi-finished steel prices. Meanwhile, colder weather conditions have weakened demand for finished steel in China, in turn causing a slackening of activity in the semi-finished steel market. On November 22, ferrous metal futures prices have indicated a sharp rising trend, which will boost market players' confidence and provide support for semi-finished steel prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move on a stable trend in the coming week.
