SteelOrbis has been informed by market sources that price levels in the Turkish domestic market for 6-7 mm mesh quality wire rod are as follows:

Region

Price ($/mt)

Marmara

520-531

Thrace

513-524

Izmir

520-531

Iskenderun

490-500

The above prices, which are on actual weight basis, do not include VAT and are on ex-works basis. The offers may differ depending on buyers and order sizes.

According to market sources, wire rod prices in the local Turkish market are in the range of $490-531/mt ex-works, excluding VAT, indicating a decrease of $5-10/mt week on week. Transaction activity in the Turkish wire rod market is quite slack. It is mentioned that a wire rod producer in the Iskenderun region has stopped its wire rod production and started rebar production instead, due to the continuing oversupply of wire rod in the region. The producer in question is expected to determine its wire rod and rebar production volumes in the coming period depending on demand. Also, wire rod producers in the Iskenderun region have been focusing on sales to other regions of the country and to the export markets in response to the oversupply situation in their local region. Meanwhile, some wire rod producers in other regions of Turkey had cut back their production before December last year and targeted the export markets, especially the US, resulting in occasional availability problems for some products in the spot market. Availability problems in these regions still exist amid weak demand.
