In the past week, buyers in the local Turkish rebar market have preferred to keep a close eye on the market while postponing their purchases amid the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and also due to the harsh winter weather conditions prevailing across Turkey. As a result, demand is still at low levels in the local Turkish rebar market. Meanwhile, domestic rebar prices have increased by TRY 30-60/mt compared to the price levels recorded on January 5 following the significant depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar seen today, January 9. However, prices on US dollar basis have mostly moved down due to the fluctuation of the exchange rate, except in the Marmara region where prices have increased by $1/mt compared to January 5.
