Nucor surprises rebar market with moderate price drop

In a letter to customers sent late Wednesday, Nucor announced that effective with shipments as of April 11, 2013, the Raw Materials Surcharge (RMS) applicable to rebar will be $228/nt ($11.40 cwt. or $251/mt), representing a $22/nt ($1.10 cwt. or $24/mt) decrease from the April 1, 2013 surcharge.

Further, Nucor will increase the base price of rebar by $7/nt ($0.35 cwt. or $8/mt)--the net effect is an overall $15/nt ($0.75 cwt. or $17/mt) decrease in transaction prices.
