Although shredded scrap prices decreased by around $20/long ton in the Midwest, Nucor announced late Wednesday a sideways price move for merchant bar and structural prices.
Effective with shipments as of April 11, 2013, the Raw Materials Surcharge (RMS) applicable to merchant bar and structural products will be $228/nt ($11.40 cwt. or $251/mt), representing a $22/nt ($1.10 cwt. or $24/mt) decrease from the April 1, 2013 surcharge.
Further, Nucor will increase the base price of merchant bar and structurals by $22/nt--the net effect is no change in transaction prices.
