The price of Mexican wire rod remained unchanged during the last two weeks at the level of $781/mt ex-mill.

While it seemed that the prices were experiencing a recovery in recent weeks, shipments from China to Mexico's main trading partner, the US, in the past month have forced domestic prices of wire rod in Mexico to stay neutral this month.

Domestically, construction sector sources said there was a slight decline in activity, heavy equipment rental and the hiring of labor in the first quarter. "Of all the work that must be performed in the first quarter, only 49 percent was carried out, while in the period of October-December 2013, the rate was only at 48.6 percent," they said.
