The price of domestic Mexican wire rod fell $4/mt-ex mill during the last three weeks, to reach $479/mt ex-mill.
Although most of the steel products used in housing construction are sourced domestically, builders pay an extra cost of between 2-4 percent more to build a house, which impacts final buyers as in many cases the domestic market is trading at international prices and a stronger dollar has increased prices of steel and cement by 26 percent in 2015.
In the case of wire rod, according to national distributors, the product can be purchased between $578-$710/mt at the end-use level, which represents a major increase from the mill level.
