In the past two weeks, the domestic price of Mexican rebar increased a mere $1/mt to reach $480/mt ex-mill.

Although suppliers to the construction industry did their best to keep the prices of its main raw materials stable, the pressure generated by the depreciation of the Mexican peso affected costs; sources expect a difficult year for the sector.

"Our suppliers can no longer sustain production costs, prices have risen between 5 and 8 percent in recent weeks, although we expect further increases before the end of February," the source said. He referred to rebar, plumbing, power tools and other materials, such as cement, plaster and sand. “Sales will it have an adjustment period which we estimate at about two or three months,” he said.
