Latest situation in local Turkish merchant bar market

Thursday, 08 December 2016 18:01:38 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Demand for domestic merchant bar in Turkey has remained at low levels over the past two weeks. The depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar ended at the beginning of the current week. with the Turkish lira starting to gain strength once again on December 5. In this context, the price decreases recorded in the long steel market on Turkish lira basis have strengthened expectations of a downward movement in the local Turkish merchant bar market. Accordingly, buyers have preferred to postpone their domestic merchant bar purchases.

Over the past two weeks, no significant change has been recorded in domestic merchant bar quotations, while producers in Turkey's Karabuk region who had failed to pass on the depreciation of the Turkish lira in their prices last week have increased their prices by TRY 40/mt.
