Increased volume of Turkish rebar offers to UAE ahead of Ramadan

Rebar prices in the UAE domestic market are now standing at AED 2,425-2,430/mt ($661-662/mt) delivered, moving up by AED 5-10/mt ($1-3/mt) since last week. Meanwhile, increased construction project activity has boosted rebar demand, while trader sources estimate that UAE monthly rebar consumption has now increased to 225,000 mt, compared to monthly consumption of around 180,000-190,000 mt over the past six months. In addition, local producer ESI is expected to announce its June production prices in the coming days, but the mill will likely reduce its offers given the increased activity for imports and less expensive prices of the imported products.

On the other side, Turkish rebar offers to the UAE are standing at $585/mt CFR on theoretical weight basis, declining by $10/mt since last week, though buyers have been pushing for $580/mt CFR levels. Increased import buying activity in the country explains why ESI produced below its output capacity level last month.

In the meantime, the volume of Turkish steelmakers' rebar offers has increased ahead of Ramadan, which starts this year in July, while import purchases in the UAE during Ramadan are anticipated to decrease by about 10 percent.
