Although the US scrap market has not officially settled for June, Gerdau Long Steel North America sent a letter to customers Monday stating that effective June 3, 2013, published prices for rebar will remain unchanged. Most predictions at the time for shredded scrap pointed to a slightly downward trend.
However, Gerdau indicated that transactional prices could vary "due to fuel surcharge and freight rate changes that might occur," stating that the company will be reviewing its Freight Matrix this month "to ensure that we are reflecting latest costs while remaining competitive in the market."
As of press time, no other US mills have issued a corresponding announcement.
