Since there is no local steel producer in Ethiopia, iron and steel needs in this country are satisfied by imports. The adverse weather conditions which had prevailed for a long time have now started to show an improvement; as a result, construction projects in the country have indicated an increase in activity. However, the difficulties experienced by local banks as regards foreign currency supply have caused trade activities to this country to slow down for now. The latest drawing quality wire rod offers given from the CIS to Ethiopia are standing in the range of $520-535/mt FOB for November shipment on actual weight basis.
