During the week ending November 17, domestic prices of semi-finished steel in China have mostly followed a declining trend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
Buyers in the semi-finished steel market have not accepted attempts by some traders to increase their prices, with semi-finished steel prices softening instead.
The downtrend of finished steel prices has negatively affected semi-finished steel prices. Since prices of scrap and coke have continued to trend down, it is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese market will likely continue their downward movement in the coming week.
