Domestic wire rod prices in Turkey fall amid lower production costs

SteelOrbis has been informed by market sources that local producers' price levels in the Turkish domestic market for 6-7 mm mesh quality wire rod are as follows:

Although trading activity in the local Turkish wire rod market had increased at the beginning of last week amid the slight appreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, during the rest of the week demand declined significantly and remained at very low levels as the Turkish lira lost strength against the US dollar once again.
 
While demand in the local Turkish wire rod market had nearly ground to a halt at the weekend, it has revived slightly again at the beginning of the current week, with market sources reporting that trading activity has resumed. However, Turkish wire rod producers have revised their prices downwards amid the declines recorded in import scrap and billet quotations. The sharp fall in the import scrap price seen in the ex-US deal concluded today, January 24, is expected to put further pressure on Turkish
