During the week ending August 8, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have continued their overall upward trend, while transaction activity in the market has been at decent levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, the semi-finished steel market in China has received a boost from the announcement of blast furnace output cuts by the authorities in Hebei Province for the coming winter season (November 2017-March 2018). At the same time, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved up, exerting a positive impact on domestic semi-finished steel prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely continue to move up in the coming week.
