During the week ending September 19, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly decreased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, downstream producers have reduced their production due to increased environmental protection measures, resulting in lower demand for semi-finished steel and dragging down semi-finished steel prices. Meanwhile, ferrous metal futures prices in China have declined, exerting a negative impact on the semi-finished steel market. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices will likely move down further in the coming week.
