During the week ending August 29, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have decreased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have been fluctuating creating uncertainty and caution among participants in the semi-finished steel market and negatively impacting demand and prices. At present, downstream users are less willing to conclude purchases of semi-finished steel. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move down further in the coming week.
