A major exporter of long products told SteelOrbis that there are indications that one of the country’s producers of long products could increase its export prices in July.
The increase, estimated at 8 percent, would drive rebar prices for export to $467/mt, FOB conditions, having the CA-50 grade, 10mm thickness as reference.
The source mentioned that, with such level of prices, rebar exports would be reduced, except when destined to nearby South American or Caribbean countries, favored by lower logistics costs.
“We will not be able to compete with Chinese material, currently quoted at $300/mt,” he said, but conceded if one of the producers increases its price, the others will follow, sooner or later.
In May, Gerdau exported rebar at $383/mt and Votorantim at $625/mt, both FOB conditions at price deals probably closed in March.
