Last Friday, a number of market players in the US domestic cold rolled coil (CRC) market thought a trade case filing could take place before they packed up and left work for the weekend. It never happened. It was then rumored that an announcement could be rolled out today; yet the market continues to wait. Sources close to SteelOrbis continue to cite a belief that a trade case is imminent; in terms of when it is actually coming, well that’s anyone’s guess. In terms of prices, things within the US domestic market have remained lateral, at $38.00-$39.00 cwt. ($837-$860/mt or $760-$780/nt) ex-Midwest mill; looking to imports, China seems to have dropped off due to US traders being increasingly worried about booking tons from those mills. What is of interest, though, is that Brazilian mills have since entered the market. Trader sources have confirmed those producers are “looking for tonnage and are offering deals.”
