Inventory levels of both US domestic and import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) and Galvalume coil are still “pretty healthy,” according to sources close to SteelOrbis. That, combined with short domestic lead times will continue to hinder upward price momentum. Although it’s believed that US domestic mills will try to firm prices now that trade cases have been filed against HRC, CRC and coated steel imports, the current state of the market remains at status quo. The most commonly reported spot price transaction is once again neutral, with base price HDG coil still trending in the approximate range of $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt), ex-Midwest mill, unchanged in the past seven days.
